While all people should be visiting the dentist at least twice a year, not everyone does. This can result in some serious dental health problems, and skipping those bi-annual visits may lead to the development of gum disease and other conditions that require expensive treatments. Colgate.com states that dentists can catch diseases early on, before they become a major issue.
Recently, Tulsa World, an Oklahoma news source, offered its readers some signs to that it's time to visit the dentist. First, any type of tooth pain should be examined to see if it is the result of a periodontal disease.
"Some symptoms would include a dull throbbing in the jaw that leads to the ear, hot or cold sensitivity, or an obvious sharp pain," said Bert Franklin, D.D.S, quoted by the news source.
Next, headaches may be a sign of a dental problem, especially if they are accompanied by a stiffness or soreness in the neck. This could mean that a person is grinding their teeth or clenching their jaw during the night.
Finally, the news source recommended that people check their gums. If they are red, swollen, or bleed when you brush, then it's time to go to the dentist.
